GSmartControl is a graphical user interface for smartctl (from smartmontools package), which is a tool for querying and controlling SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) data on modern hard disk drives. It allows you to inspect the drive's SMART data to determine its health, as well as run various tests on it.
GSmartControl can let you know in advance of failing that the drive has errors. Since a hard drive which has errors can be slower as well as fail at any time, it can help you justify spending time to back up your data or upgrade your hard drive.

Disk Drill
Disk Drill is a data recovery software that easily protects your files from accidental deletion with Recovery Vault and recovers lost data from disks. CrystalDiskInfo
CrystalDiskInfo is a HDD/SSD utility software which supports S.M.A.R.T.
It shows the health status much more clearly than similar tools.
The "Function / Graph" is especially interesting for the "Reallocated Sectors Count".
If it increases over time or is very high already, the hard drive may need to be replaced. More than 30 languages.

SeaTools
SeaTools is a diagnostic tool that helps you determine the condition of the disk drive in your external hard drive, desktop or laptop computer.
The installation needs dot.NET 4 as a precondition. If dot.NET 4 is not installed, it must be installed before. Then in a further step the new dot.NET 4-installation must be updated, before you can install SeaTools.
It includes several tests that will examine the physical media on your Seagate or Maxtor disk drive and any other non-Seagate disk drive.

The smartmontools package contains two utility programs (smartctl and smartd) to control and monitor storage systems using the Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology System (SMART) built into most modern ATA and SCSI harddisks. Diskscan is intended to provide the information needed to decide if a disk is good or not, be it an HDD or an SSD it is likely to be holding important data and if you have a suspicion that it is failing it is also important to know how bad is it down the road. Diskscan will only perform reads in its disk surface scan so it is not destructive in any way and it will report on all the key metrics needed to decide if the disk is good or not, currently that includes reporting all the errors that were encountered, a latency histogram over the entire surface and a graph of the min/max/median latency over the disk surface.
